Neutrals Set the Mood, and Color Tells the Story: Defining the Palm Beach Aesthetic
Palm Beach design carries a signature kind of ease—subtle, sun-washed, and quietly luxurious. The homes here aren’t loud; they’re thoughtfully layered, airy, and filled with natural light. They hold a sense of refinement that feels lived-in rather than formal, and a coastal energy that balances serenity with personality.

At Krista + Home, we capture this balance through a simple philosophy that guides our work across Jupiter, Palm Beach Island, West Palm Beach, and Delray Beach: Neutrals set the mood, and color tells the story.
This guiding principle has become the foundation of our aesthetic. Neutrals create calm, texture brings depth, and color adds emotion—each playing a unique role in the visual language of a South Florida home.

Neutrals are far more than a muted palette—they are the emotional backdrop of a space. Soft whites, warm taupes, pale oak, gentle stone, and sand-inspired tones create an atmosphere where the mind relaxes and the eye feels at ease.
In Palm Beach design, neutrals also work harmoniously with the landscape. The lush greenery viewed through a window, the filtered Florida sunlight across drapery, and the shadows of palm fronds all act as natural elements of the color palette.
This balance creates spaces that feel soft, welcoming, and authentically coastal.

Texture is essential in neutral-forward interiors. It adds dimension and prevents calm spaces from feeling flat. We integrate texture through:
- Ribbed wood cabinetry
- Woven baskets
- Ceramic vases
- Organic sculptures
- Grasscloth wall treatments
- Clean-lined upholstery
- Matte stone surfaces
Texture also acts as a bridge between indoor and outdoor living—a defining characteristic of South Florida homes. The tactile feel of natural materials echoes the environment around you, making the home feel connected to the landscape.

Once a neutral palette creates the foundation, color steps in to add emotion, personality, and energy. Krista often describes the Palm Beach palette through curated pops of color:
- Sea-glass greens
- Soft blush
- Coral and sand pink
- Turquoise and aqua
- Citrus orange
- Botanical greens
These hues don’t overwhelm the room, they highlight it. A bowl of bright citrus, a pop of greenery, a single piece of art, or a curated coffee table accessory can shift the entire tone of a space. Palm Beach color is confident but controlled. It whispers before it shouts.

Architecture—no matter how understated—plays a major role in Palm Beach interiors. Tall ceilings, clean millwork profiles, sculptural lighting, long entryways, and modern molding details all serve as the quiet framework that sets the stage for furniture, texture, and color. Even in minimal spaces, architectural choices add sophistication and structure.
The South Florida Aesthetic: A Living, Breathing Language
The Palm Beach aesthetic is fluid. It responds to light, nature, and lifestyle. It thrives on contrast: softness + vibrancy, texture + clarity, serenity + personality.
Whether your home is coastal, contemporary, transitional, or modern organic, this aesthetic adapts beautifully to its environment. It’s the harmony between muted calm and joyful color that makes Palm Beach interiors so captivating.

Inside the New Luxury Home Office: Beauty, Function, and Palm Beach Living

In the last few years, the home office has undergone one of the biggest lifestyle transformations in residential design. As hybrid schedules became the norm and more families chose to work from the comfort of home, the office evolved from a practical necessity into a deeply personal environment — one that must support productivity, creativity, and calm in equal measure.
At Krista + Home, our design team approaches the home office the same way we approach any luxury interior: with intention. Every office is an opportunity to blend form and function, to create a workspace that reflects the homeowner’s rhythm, style, and daily needs.
The New Definition of a Home Office

The modern home office is no longer a closed-off room with a desk and a chair. It’s a space that must feel good to work in — visually and energetically. Thoughtful millwork, layered textures, architectural lighting, curated shelving, and comfortable seating all play a role in forming a room that supports long stretches of focus.
Whether the office is used for Zoom meetings, creative work, financial planning, or simply a quiet moment away from the family, its design directly influences productivity and peace of mind.

Balancing Beauty and Productivity
A successful home office should be as functional as it is beautiful. That balance is achieved through details like integrated storage, customized built-ins, ergonomic seating, layered lighting, and the strategic placement of decorative elements that feel inspiring rather than distracting.
We often incorporate tonal palettes, natural textures, and sculptural décor to create an atmosphere of calm. When a workspace feels serene, it becomes easier to think clearly and stay organized throughout the day.

Spaces for Every Working Style
No two households work the same way, which is why we design home offices with intention and flexibility:
-
Executive suites with powerful architectural lines and elevated materials
-
Creative studios filled with natural light and inspirational details
-
Shared workspaces for couples or families
-
Secondary offices for guest rooms, children, or hybrid setups

Every office is tailored to the individual — their habits, their workflow, and their lifestyle.
The Art of the Zoom-Ready Backdrop
Since virtual meetings have become part of daily life, the “Zoom backdrop” is now a design consideration in every office. Thoughtfully styled shelving, art selections, and lighting can elevate the room while still feeling authentic and lived-in.

The Art of Curation: How KH Curates Meaningful Art for Every Space

Art is more than an accessory—it’s the soul of a home. It tells the story of who lives there, what they value, and how they see the world. At KH by Vesta Home, every project begins and ends with that belief: that art completes a space by adding emotion, curiosity, and connection.
“I really love photography because you’re getting the mindset of the artist—what they’re thinking, who they are, their perspective on life,” says Krista Alterman, Creative Director at KH by Vesta. “It’s a perspective that only they have.”

That same philosophy guides how our team curates art for the homes we design. Whether it’s a bold figurative piece, a soft coastal photograph, or an abstract composition layered with texture, we look for work that feels personal—pieces that shift the energy of a room and make it truly lived in.
The Process: Curating with Intention

Every home has its own rhythm, and art helps define it. Our process begins by understanding how clients want to feel in their space—calm, inspired, grounded, or uplifted. From there, art becomes the emotional framework for the design.
We look for works that connect visually and emotionally with the space: soft neutral landscapes that echo natural light, sculptural pieces that balance scale, or vibrant color stories that add confidence and depth.
When layered thoughtfully, art doesn’t compete with the design—it enhances it. A serene dining room with tonal photography invites conversation. A statement portrait in a study becomes a moment of quiet reflection. Even a simple hall vignette gains warmth and dimension through composition and contrast.
Elevating Luxury Through Storytelling

At KH, luxury is defined by meaning, not ornament. We believe in creating homes that evolve with the people who live in them—spaces that hold memories, creativity, and beauty in equal measure.
Curating art is part of that philosophy. Each piece is chosen not just for its aesthetic value, but for the story it tells. It brings movement to a minimalist space, focus to an open floor plan, and humanity to even the most polished interiors.
“Art gives a space its personality,” Krista says. “It adds life to the architecture and makes a home feel complete.”

Design That Feels Personal
For our clients, art is often the final layer—the piece that transforms a house into a reflection of who they are. When chosen with intention, it becomes more than visual—it becomes emotional.
Because great design isn’t only about how a home looks—it’s about how it feels.

Palm Beach Aesthetic: Balancing Quiet Neutrals with Bold Color

In Palm Beach, Florida, design lives at the intersection of calm and charisma. Our homes capture the serenity of the coast, yet they pulse with vibrancy and life. It’s this duality – light, airy neutrals paired with intentional, expressive color – that defines the Palm Beach aesthetic and continues to inspire our work at KH by Vesta Home, Florida’s leading luxury interior design firm.
The Foundation: Calm, Collected Neutrals

Every great Palm Beach home begins with a foundation of restraint. Think warm whites, sand tones, soft grays, and subtle taupes, the colors of driftwood, limestone, and light. Neutrals allow natural light to do the talking, creating rooms that feel open, timeless, and endlessly adaptable.
“Neutrals set the mood,” says Krista Alterman, Creative Director at KH by Vesta. “They give your eye a place to rest and allow the architecture and craftsmanship to shine.”
For many of our clients relocating from the Northeast, this minimalist foundation feels both refreshing and liberating. It’s a departure from darker palettes and heavy traditional finishes—an embrace of light and openness that mirrors the rhythm of Palm Beach living.
The Accent: Color as Storytelling

Color in Palm Beach isn’t used timidly—it’s used with intention. A bold accent wall, a piece of abstract art, or a perfectly placed velvet chair becomes the punctuation mark that makes a room sing.
“In Palm Beach, color tells the story,” Krista explains. “A pop of coral or a stroke of teal isn’t just decorative, it reflects the lifestyle, the sunshine, and the confidence of this community.”

This interplay of materials ensures that even bold palettes remain sophisticated, rooted in craftsmanship and refinement.
Designing for Life, Not Just for Looks
Palm Beach homes are built for living beautifully. The balance between neutral calm and expressive color mirrors the lifestyle here – elegant yet approachable, classic yet full of personality.
Whether you’re reimagining your home or starting fresh in South Florida, our team at KH by Vesta Home can help you craft a design that reflects your story—with warmth, refinement, and that signature Palm Beach glow.

Six Luxury Design Trends for Fall 2025: South Florida Edition

When most people think of fall, they usually picture crisp air, golden leaves, and cozy sweaters. In South Florida, the reality is a little different. The weather stays warm here in Palm Beach, but that doesn’t mean our homes can’t embrace the richness and intimacy of the season. And this fall, it’s all about creating interiors that feel layered, personal, and inviting.
Krista Watterworth Alterman, Executive Creative Director of KH by Vesta Home, shared in a recent Elle Decor feature that our design team is leaning into “sexy, deep tones such as burgundy, plum, and mocha” to create what she calls seasonal intimacy—spaces designed to feel warm, grounded, and soulful, no matter the climate outside. Here are six other design trends Krista expects to see in Fall 2025:
Earthy, Cozy Color Palettes
Rich shades of burgundy, plum, and mocha bring depth and atmosphere, perfect for transforming interiors into retreats you’ll want to linger in. Even in South Florida, where the sun is still shining, these palettes give homes a sense of intimacy and balance.
Curvy Furniture & Organic Shapes

Arched doorways, rounded seating, and scalloped headboards soften interiors while adding sculptural impact. These organic forms bring movement, offering an elegant contrast to more structured architecture.
Layered, Personality-Driven Interiors
Cookie-cutter perfection is out. Homes this fall are moving toward a curated mix that feels collected over time. Pattern play, layered textures, and personal treasures tell a story—what Krista describes as perfectly imperfect spaces that feel authentic, inviting, and lived in.
Artful, Expressive Finishes
Antique mirrors, colorful millwork, and even a touch of Victorian florals are returning to the conversation. These details add history and playfulness, blending timeless craftsmanship with a fresh, modern perspective.
Dramatic Stone & Metallics

Statement marbles and metallic finishes are commanding attention. Think green-veined marble fireplaces or silver-toned accents paired with organic textures. It’s all about contrast—polished surfaces grounded by natural warmth.
Pattern Drenching

Maximalism is thriving. In Palm Beach, bold pattern play has always been part of the story, but now it’s a national trend. Layering florals, geometrics, and nature-inspired prints brings energy and individuality to every corner of the home.
✨ Whether you’re embracing deep, moody tones, curving silhouettes, or fearless pattern mixing, Fall 2025 is about making your home deeply personal—intimate, personal, and soulful—even here in South Florida, where “cozy” isn’t always part of the vocabulary

From Empty Nest to Elegant Retreat in a Palm Beach Waterfront Estate
When the kids are grown, the house should grow up too. For one North Palm Beach client, that meant taking her waterfront estate through a complete gut renovation and turning it into something more personal, more polished, and entirely her own. What began as a thick vision book of inspiration photos became a globally inspired sanctuary now called Modern Balinese.
Organic textures, layered wood elements, and sculptural seating set the tone. The home feels calm and indulgent all at once, perfectly tuned to this stage of life, and with stunning views of the water from nearly every window, it’s a modern beach house at heart.
A Bali Mood with Palm Beach Ease
The inspiration was quintessential Bali: serene and moody with a touch of allure. Dark woods, textured walls, and a deeper palette now play against the endless water views. The same black stone from the kitchen backsplash and counters repeats in other spaces, tying the home together, while wood paneling on the ceilings adds warmth overhead.
In the kitchen, organic pendants by MadeGoods and sleek cabinetry set the stage, with Palecek barstools tucked neatly at the island. The dining chairs mix tailored upholstery with rustic finishes for a look that’s both elevated and relaxed.

Designed for Everyday Living
With no need to kid-proof, the design reflects the homeowner’s true style. Four beloved dogs meant a rug-free lifestyle, so wood-look tile flooring was selected for durability, layered with comfortable seating and organic accessories to keep the home warm and inviting.
Every room feels indulgent and intentional, yet still has space for big family gatherings and visiting friends. It’s a retreat designed for today, but still very much an anchor for the future.
Details that Define the Retreat
Nothing here was picked off the shelf. From seagrass wallpaper in the master bedroom to the black opium pendants by Forestier Paris and the antique iron four-poster bed by Oly Studio, every choice was purposeful. The built-in fireplace and cozy sitting area turn the suite into a retreat within a retreat.

Even the office was designed to capture the rhythm of daily life while keeping the view of passing boats in sight. The result is a work-from-home space that feels as inspiring as it is functional.
A Home for the Next Chapter
What began as a vision board evolved into a Modern Balinese dream home, layered with organic textures, sculptural details, and thoughtful design. Proof that when life enters a new chapter, the home can evolve beautifully right along with it.

Press Start… The Art of the Perfect Winter-Ready Home
In this $5.5M Intracoastal retreat, we designed a perfect season-ready escape: a bar and wine room for toasting the good life, a kitchen made for gathering, a murphy bed for surprise guests, and a poolside kitchen ready for epic winter entertaining. Every space was layered with rich textures and coastal touches that make you want to slow down and savor the moment. Voila.
There’s nothing quite like walking into a home that’s already ready for the season — a space that instantly feels like you’ve been there for years (in the best possible way). Instant “ahhhhh”.
That’s the kind of magic I love creating.
It’s Not About Perfection — It’s About Ease
A winter-ready home isn’t about everything being flawless or untouchable. It’s about making space for the good stuff: the conversations that stretch into the night, the laughter that echoes through the hallways, the moments that become the stories you tell next year.
It’s that Insta-worthy life — and home — where style meets comfort without missing a beat.
The Fast Lane to a Finished Home
Here’s the best part: you don’t need a renovation to get there. We style it, furnish it, and make it feel like yours from day one. Every piece is thoughtfully chosen, layered, and placed so all you have to do is… press start.
Because real luxury isn’t just about how a home looks — it’s about how effortless it feels.

Because Beige Was Never the Assignment
Beige is safe…expected…quiet. But this $4M condo at the Ritz-Carlton Residences, perched directly on the Atlantic Ocean? It’s anything but.

But at KH we tell stories in full color. Our interiors aren’t background noise. They are layered, lived-in statements of identity and luxury. They celebrate individuality. And they never, ever settle for the ordinary.

Design That Dares
We design for this collector who knows that brunt orange velvet belongs on the headboard. This couple wanted their foyer to feel like a grand hotel arrival. They craved beauty that moves them every time they walk through the door.
We used color with purpose. Pattern with restraint. Texture like a signature. And yes—we broke the rules just to bring on the magic.

Luxury is Personal
This home doesn’t feel like a showroom. It tells their story in an elevated form.
That’s why we dive deep into who our clients are—how they live, what inspires them, and what makes their home feel like a personal brand. Here we wallpapered ceilings, sourced art no one else has, and even painted the library emerald green. These bold decisions tell their story.

3 Things Interior Designers Do Well

November 7, 2024
3 Things Interior Designers Do Well
Space Planning
Interior designers are keen to maximize a space’s functionality and flow. They assess the layout,
ensuring that furniture placement and room configuration enhance usability while creating a
visually appealing environment.

Aesthetic Vision
Designers have a strong sense of style and color, allowing them to create cohesive and attractive
designs. They know how to combine textures, colors, and materials to establish a mood and
achieve the desired aesthetic for a space.

Problem-Solving
Interior designers are skilled at addressing challenges that arise during the design process.
They creatively troubleshoot issues related to layout, lighting, and integrating
personal preferences, ensuring that the final design meets the client’s
needs and expectations.
3 key statistics about the Florida real estate market

Median Home Price
As of mid-2023, the median home price in Florida has significantly increased, often exceeding $400,000 in many metropolitan areas, reflecting ongoing demand and limited inventory.
Population Growth
Florida has been experiencing a robust influx of residents, with an estimated annual growth rate of around 1.5% to 2%. This population increase fuels demand for housing, particularly in cities like Miami, Orlando, and Tampa.
Rental Market Trends
The rental market in Florida has also been strong, with rental prices rising significantly. In many areas, year-over-year rent increases have been reported at around 10% or higher, driven by high demand and low vacancy rates.
These statistics indicate a dynamic and competitive real estate environment in Florida.
Integrating Interior Design with Architectural Elements
Integrating Interior Design with Architectural Elements: Elevating Your Space
When interior design works together with architectural elements, the result is a cohesive and stunning space that reflects personal style and maximizes functionality. Rather than seeing architecture and interior design as separate disciplines, blending these two creates a unified look, ensuring that a space feels both well-thought-out and effortlessly beautiful. We work alongside architects to combine our expertise, creating the perfect balance.

Interior Design by Krista + Home. Photography by Eve Greendale.
Recognize the Architectural Framework
Before beginning the interior design process, it’s crucial to understand and appreciate the space’s existing architectural features. Elements like exposed beams, high ceilings, large windows, or original molding can become focal points and should be considered when selecting furniture, decor, and color palettes. These architectural details often tell a story about the property, and embracing them can add authenticity to the design.

Interior Design by Krista + Home. Photography by Jessica Glynn.
Emphasize Texture and Materiality
Architectural elements often come with distinct textures and materials, such as brick walls, concrete floors, or wooden beams. Rather than covering or disguising these elements, interior design should highlight and complement them.
Incorporating softer, contrasting materials like plush fabrics, rugs, and drapes can balance the rawness of industrial architecture. On the flip side, sleek and modern furniture might pair beautifully with traditional wood paneling or exposed brick, providing a fresh yet grounded, stylish contrast.

Interior Design by Krista + Home. Photography by Eve Greendale.
Design with Symmetry and Proportion in Mind
Interior design should always reflect the proportions of the architecture. A room with grand dimensions, such as a vaulted ceiling or wide-open floor plan, calls for furniture and decor that match that scale. On the contrary, a smaller space might benefit from a more minimalist approach, where every piece is carefully selected to prevent overcrowding.
Symmetry, too, plays a vital role in bridging interior design with architecture. Pairing furniture and decor in a balanced, symmetrical arrangement complements the existing architecture, making the space feel harmonious and visually pleasing.

Interior Design by Krista + Home. Photography by Venjhamin Reyes.
Get Creative with a Focal Point
One of the most impactful ways to integrate interior design with architecture is by creating a focal point that draws attention to a key architectural element. Whether it’s a stunning fireplace, a statement staircase, or a dramatic vaulted ceiling, the focal point becomes the anchor of the room’s design.
By building the design around this architectural feature, you ensure that it remains the star of the space. Complement it with strategically placed furniture, art, or lighting that emphasizes the feature without overwhelming it. The goal is to enhance the architectural focal point, making it the room’s heart.
Harmonizing Design and Architecture
Incorporating architectural elements into interior design is about more than just aesthetics—it’s about creating a unified and intentional space. By embracing the inherent qualities of a space’s architecture and integrating design that complements those elements, you create a home that feels functional and uniquely personal.
Understanding how to merge these two worlds is key for interior designers, who must deliver extraordinary results that transform any space into a masterpiece.
