Miami Design District
I am so exited to be involved with the upcoming Design On A Dime benefit, sponsored by HousingWorks, Elle Decor, Benjamin Moore and Mitchell Gold Bob Williams. Proceeds from this event will help fund Housing Works’ AIDS-FREE USA 2025 campaign, a collaborative, community-based initiative working to end the AIDS epidemic in the US by 2025.
One of the parts of the event that I am super excited about is the location. The Miami Design District is amazing. Billed as “A creative neighborhood and shopping destination”, the district is dedicated to innovative fashion, design, art, architecture and dining. The venue for the event is the historic Moore Building. The unique building was built in 1921 as the furniture showroom space for Moore and Sons.
On permanent display in the atrium is the site-specific installation “Elastika,” created by Iraqi-born, London-based architect Zaha Hadid and commissioned by Dacra president Craig Robins. Together they wanted a design which compliments and at the same time contradicts the period in which the Moore Building was built.
